‘1917’, Renee Zellweger, Joaquin Phoenix, Brad Pitt and South Korea’s ‘Parasite’, all win the 2020 Golden Globes

On January 5th, 2020, in Los Angeles, California, took place the 77th annual Golden Globes ceremony, which are awarded each year by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, to the best in cinema and television in the U.S.

The war movie “1917” won Globes for best picture drama and best director (Sam Mendes); Renee Zellweger (“Judy”) and Joaquin Phoenix (“Joker”), both won for best dramatic actress and actor; Laura Dern (“Marriage Story”) and Brad Pitt (“Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood”), won for best supporting actress and actor, respectively; Quentin Tarantino was awarded the best screenplay Globe for “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood”, and Bong Joon Ho’s “Parasite”, from South Korea, won for best foreign language picture.

'Roma' and Alfonso Cuaron win the top prizes in the Mexican Academy Awards

On June 24th, 2019, in the Cineteca Nacional in Mexico City (Mexico), took place the 61th annual Ariel awards ceremony, where the Mexican Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences recognized the best films in Mexican cinema of the past year, as well as those foreign pictures released in the country.  

Mexican filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón’s celebrated semi-biopic “Roma”, took home most of the top prizes of the event, including Best Picture, Director and Film Editing (both awarded to Cuarón), as well as Best Supporting Actress for Marina de Tavira, among other trophies.

Also in the event, Ilse Salas (“The Good Girls”) and Noé Hernández (“Eight Out of Ten”), both won for Best Actress and Best Actor, respectively, while “The Chambermaid”, directed by Lila Avilés, won in the best first feature category.

'Roma' y Alfonso Cuarón triunfan en los premios Ariel número 61

El 24 de junio del 2019 se efectuó, en la Cineteca Nacional en la Ciudad de México, la entrega anual número 61 de los premios Ariel, que cada año otorga la Academia Mexicana de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas (AMACC), a lo mejor del cine mexicano, así como filmes extranjeros estrenados en el país.

La celebrada película semibiográfica, “Roma” del director mexicano Alfonso Cuarón arrasó con los principales galardones, entre ellos mejor película, director y edición (ambos para Cuarón) y co-actuación femenina para Marina de Tavira, entre otros.

También en el evento, Ilse Salas (“Las Niñas Bien”) y  Noé Hernández (“Ocho de cada diez”) ganaron como Mejor Actor y Actriz, respectivamente, mientras que “La Camarista” de Lila Avilés se llevó el Ariel de Mejor Ópera Prima.

‘Green Book’, Olivia Colman, Rami Malek, Alfonso Cuarón y Spike Lee, triunfan en los premios Oscar

La película basada en hechos verídicos “Green Book”, sobre un chofer blanco y su jefe y pasajero negro, quien además es un reconocido pianista, fue la gran sorpresa de la noche del domingo, al ganar el Oscar como Mejor Película del Año, derrotando en el acto a las favoritas “Roma” y “El Infiltrado del Klan”.

Otra sorpresa de la premiación fue Olivia Colman (“The Favourite”), quien ganó como Mejor Actriz protagónica, arrebatándole la estatuilla a la siete veces nominada al Oscar, Glenn Close (“The Wife”). A su vez, Rami Malek (“Bohemian Rhapsody”) ganó como Mejor Actor protagónico, por su interpretación de Freddie Mercury, el fallecido líder del grupo de rock Queen.

El filme mexicano “Roma” ganó 3 premios Oscar, incluyendo Mejor Película en Lengua Extranjera, Mejor Director (Alfonso Cuarón) y Mejor Cinematografía (también otorgado a Cuarón).

El celebrado director Spike Lee obtuvo el segundo Oscar de su carrera, junto con su equipo de guionistas de “El Infiltrado del Klan” (“BlacKkKlansman”), quienes ganaron por Mejor Guión Adaptado.   

La cinta sobre el astronauta Neil Armstrong y el primer alunizaje, “First Man”, ganó por Mejores Efectos Visuales, mientras la estrella de pop Lady Gaga se llevó la estatuilla por Mejor Canción Original, por “Shallow”, tema del drama romántico “Nace una Estrella” (“A Star is Born”).

El domingo 24 de febrero del 2019 se efectuó la entrega anual número 91 del Oscar, premio que cada año entrega la Academia de Arte y Ciencias Cinematográficas de Estados Unidos (AMPAS por su siglas en inglés) a lo mejor del cine en EU.

La ceremonia se realizó en el Teatro Dolby en el Hollywood and Highland Center en Los Ángeles, California (Estados Unidos).

The fact-based road-trip drama about an Italian-American driver and his African-American passenger and boss, who’s a renowned pianist, “Green Book”, was the big surprise on Oscar night last Sunday, when it took home the Best Picture prize, defeating favorites like “Roma” and “BlacKkKlansman”.

Another surprise of the award ceremony was Olivia Colman (“The Favourite”), who won in the Best Actress category, defeating seven times nominated Glenn Close (“The Wife”). Meanwhile, Rami Malek (“Bohemian Rhapsody”) won the Best Actor trophy for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury, the late front man of rock group Queen.

Mexican film “Roma” won three Oscars, including Best Foreign Language Film, Best Director (Alfonso Cuarón) and Best Cinematography (also awarded to Cuarón).

Celebrated director Spike Lee won the second Oscar of his career, along with the screenwriters of “BlacKkKlansman”, who took home the statuette for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Alfonso Cuarón triunfa en los premios del Sindicato de Directores de EU por 'Roma'

El 2 de febrero del 2019, en la entrega anual número 71, de los premios del Sindicato de Directores de Estados Unidos, el cineasta mexicano Alfonso Cuarón ganó el premio a mejor director del año por "Roma", derrotando a Spike Lee ("BlacKkKlansman") y a Peter Farrelly ("Green Book"), mientras que Bo Burnham fue la sorpresa, al llevarse el premio de mejor opera prima, por su primer largometraje "Eight Grade", el drama sobre una adolescente, en su último año escolar antes de entrar a high school.

On February 2nd, 2019, at the 71st Annual Directors Guild of America awards, which took place at the Hollywood and Highland Center’s Ray Dolby Ballroom, Mexican filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón took home the top prize for “Roma”, while “Eighth Grade” director Bo Burnham was the event’s big surprise, winning the First-Time Feature award over “A Star Is Born” director Bradley Cooper.
