South Korea’s ‘Parasite’ wins best picture and makes History at the 2020 Oscars


On February 9, 2020, in Los Angeles, California, took place the 92 annual Oscar ceremony, where South Korea’s “Parasite” won the top honors for best international feature, as well as best picture of the year, for the first time in the History of the award.
Renée Zellweger (“Judy”), Joaquin Phoenix (“Joker”), Laura Dern (“Marriage Story”) and Brad Pitt (“Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood”), are also among the winners in the top acting categories.
The war drama “1917” won for best visual effects and cinematography, while Taika Waititi, director of “Jojo Rabbit”, took home the Oscar for best adapted screenplay.
Female composer Hildur Guðnadóttir won in the category of best original score for “Joker”, while pop star Elton John and songwriter Bernie Taupin, shared the triumph for best original song for a motion picture, for “I’m Gonna Love Me Again”, main theme of “Rocketman”.
The dark comedy “Parasite”, from South Korea, also became the first film not in the English language to win the golden statuette for best picture, as well as the Palm d’Or, at the celebrated Cannes Festival, in France; its director and cowriter, Bong Joon Ho, also won Oscars for best director and best original screenplay.
The awards ceremony took place on February 9, 2020, in the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California. Each year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards the Oscar trophy, to the best in motion pictures in the United States.
