Mexican
film “Roma” received 10 Oscar nominations, including one for Best
Picture, Best Foreign Language Film and Best Director (Alfonso
Cuarón); Spike Lee’s “BlackkKlansman” obtained six
nominations, including Best Picture and Director; Six-time Oscar
nominee Glenn Close acquired her 7th Best Actress nomination for “The
Wife”, as well as newcomer Yalitza Aparicio (“Roma”), who got
her first Best Actress nomination; Willem Dafoe (“At Eternity’s
Gate”) and Christian Bale (“Vice") are among the nominees in the
Best Actor Category; Pawel Pawlikowski's "Cold War", from Poland, got 3 nominations, including Best Foreign Film; superhero movie “Black Panther” received 7
Oscar nominations, including Best Picture; “Avengers Infinity War”,
“First Man” and “Solo: A Star Wars Story” are among the
contenders in the Best Visual Effects category; “Spider-Man: Into
the Spider Verse”, and Wes Anderson’s “Isle of Dogs” are both
nominated for Best Animated Feature Film.
The 91st
annual Academy Awards will be presented on February 24, 2019.
