‘Joker’ laughs all the way to the 2020 Oscars with 11 nominations


On January 13th, 2020, the nominations for the 92nd annual Oscars were announced; this golden statuette is awarded each year by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to the best in cinema in the United States, this time for 2019, in Hollywood’s most anticipated ceremony.
The movie about the origins of comic book superhero Batman’s arch nemesis, “Joker”, is the frontrunner with 11 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director (Todd Phillips) and actor, Joaquin Phoenix (who has already won the Golden Globe for best dramatic actor); it is followed closely by the war epic “1917”; Quentin Tarantino’s ninth film “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood” and Martin Scorsese’s gangster film “The Irishman”, all with 10 nominations each.   
“Marriage Story”, “Jojo Rabbit”, “Ford v Ferrari”, “Little Women” and South Korea’s “Parasite”, complete the Best Picture category. Bong Joon Ho’s “Parasite” is also nominated in the Best International Film category, which before 2020 was called Best Foreign Language Film.
The 92nd Academy Awards ceremony will take place on February 9, 2020, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California, for the 18th consecutive year. The ceremony will be televised by the ABC network.
